History's Biggest Heists
Curious about what history's biggest heists were? Here are some of the most notorious heists:
- The Antwerp World Diamond Center Heist: In 2003, Leonardo Notarbartolo and his crew stole $100 million in jewels from a heavily guarded underground vault without triggering any of the 63 security cameras. He was caught through DNA on a discarded sandwich and sentenced to 10 years, but most of the loot was never found.
- The Dunbar Heist: In 1997, ex-guard Allen Pace and his crew used inside knowledge to steal $19 million from the Dunbar Armored depot. They were caught after one of them used cash still wrapped in a Dunbar seal. Pace got 24 years, and $10 million remains missing.
- The Millennium Star Heist:
In 2000, a gang tried to steal the 203-carat Millennium Star diamond from London’s Millennium Dome by crashing in with a bulldozer and escaping by speedboat. Tipped off, police posed as staff and arrested the gang during the attempted heist. [1]
