Make sure there are no invalid characters (anything that's not a letter, number, or a dash/hyphen. Most websites allow underscores ( _ ) in usernames, but Tumblr considers it an invalid character, so if you put one in your username, remove it. Some examples of invalid characters are: $, %,^, &, ., @, !, +, etc.

I deleted my prior Tumblr account and want to sign up again. Why can't I use the same email?

It's possible that you didn't fully delete your first Tumblr account. Try logging in with that same email and your old password. If you don't know the password, use the "forgot password" command to reset it. If you are able to log into the old account, you can then delete it fully and make a new account with that email. If the account is deleted and you are unable to log into it, then you can either contact Tumblr support or just use another email address for your new account.
