That's a pretty good pace if you're trying to learn a new language. You should be able to acquire at least 20 words a day at that pace. Just make sure that you review the previous day's work with each new session.

I think learning on your own is going to be exceptionally hard. Classes and tutors give you an opportunity to get immediate feedback and practice your verbal skills. Without any of that, it's going to be exceptionally hard to master the language.

Study and practice the words, download apps to help and watch movies in Russian, paying close attention to the sounds and pacing of the speakers.
  • Question
What are some ways I can stay focused and have fun with my new language?
    Community Answer
Get involved with everything in your new language. Always bear in mind that most language learners do not have the chance to have a partner whose mother tongue is the language they are learning. Therefore, it is important to have an imaginary person with you with whom you can practice every day. This imaginary person will always be with you and can act as a good partner.
  • Question
Many websites have spoken languages, which is fine, but where do I go to learn ASL?
    Colin Culver

Websites/apps like Memrise have user-created courses that teach ASL, which instead of showing written questions show pictures with the questions. There will not be any sound questions. Of course, the best way is to find someone that also "speaks" ASL and interact with them for practice.

  • Question
Does it take longer to learn a language the older you are?
    Pimemorized
    Top Answerer
It depends. When kids are little, their brain has more plasticity, and so it is often easier for them to learn new languages. As humans, we are born with the innate skill to understand grammar, and so younger kids are even able to split words when listening to languages they have never heard of before. This is a skill that declines the older we get, and so it ends up being harder to learn languages the older you are. However, if we heard this language constantly when we were younger, or if we had even learned a little bit of it when we were at that young age, it would be easier to learn it in the future, regardless of age.

If you are looking to improve on your conversational skills, try using a language exchange app. That way you can find someone to practice with you. You could try Italki, Tandem, Billingua, or my personal favorite, Ditsay.
  • Question
I want to learn Greek, no specific reason but I am fixated on it. Should I learn it or is it even useful?
    Community Answer
It can be useful if you travel, or it can just be fun to learn just for the sake of learning it. For learning it you could look online, for example, Duolingo is a great app and has a variety of languages they teach. For quick and easy phrases you want to know you could use Google Translate. There is also a book called Complete Greek by Aristarhos Matsukas that you may find useful as it has quite good reviews.

  • Question
What is the best way to learn a language?
    Community Answer
The best way is to immerse yourself in a culture where that language is spoken. If you can't do that, get training from a native (or even a non-native) speaker. If you can't do that, find audio or video recordings of the language being spoken, and copy them. If you can't do that, take a class or study a textbook.
