Being predictable
Sending a boring text shows that you’re not putting in much effort to grab her attention.
✗ “Hey, what’s up?”
✓ “Hey, I saw a stray cat and it reminded me of you (except your eyes are prettier).”
Sharing every detail
No one needs to know your boring daily activities--keep it interesting (and silly if you like).
✗ “I just did laundry, made some tacos, ran a few errands, and now I’m going to the gym.”
✓ “I aim to spend the day honing my superpower (I read minds… you think I’m silly).”
Sending long messages
Text-paragraphs filled with unnecessary details are boring to read. Keep texts short and sweet--save extra details for face-to-face conversations.
✗ “The weather is amazing today. I’m dying to go for a walk but I want a walking buddy.
Want to be my official walking buddy? There’s this super amazing spot by the lake
where all the turtles hang out and the little ones are just so adorable and chill, I think
you’d like it. Are you free for walks during the day sometime? I’m free in afternoons so let
me know and we’ll go on the next good-weather day. You have to see how tiny these turtles are.”
✓ “Free for a sunny walk this afternoon?”
Sending too many texts
Sending her lots of texts will annoy her and make you look needy.
✗ “Hey girl.”
“Hope you’re having a good day.”
“I’m thinking about you.”
“And, of course, you and me together.”
“Are you free for lunch tomorrow?”
“I have a great spot in mind.”
“Hope you like sushi.”
“? Let me know.”
✓ “Hey, thinking about you and wondering if you’d like to join me for sushi
tomorrow?”
Using bad grammar
The occasional “ur” or uncapitalized letter is acceptable, but overdoing text-slang can come off as immature.
✗ “wutup grl, i no ur biz rn but hope 2 c u l8tr.”
✓ “Hey Sarah, I hope to see you later if you’re not too busy.”
Using too many emojis
Emojis may seem cute and playful, but using too many is cheesy and annoying.
✗ “Hey you 😀. I’m 💤but can’t stop thinking 💭 about you 😴😘😍.
✓ “Hey you, thinking about you is keeping me awake. 😊
Being offensive
Sometimes trying to be suggestive can cross the line into creepy or rude. Be tasteful!
✗ “Can I lock you up in my room for the night?”
✓ “I have a comfy chair at home waiting for a beautiful woman to make it a throne.”
