How do I give myself a luxurious makeover at home?
When I look in the mirror, I just feel kinda blah about how I look recently. For the past few years, I've dressed the same, done my makeup the same, everything the same. I feel stuck in a rut and just want a totally different style that makes me look my best. I've never really done a makeover before, so what are the basic steps I should follow? FYI I don't really have a lot of extra money to buy new makeup or supplies, so any budget-friendly options are a huge plus.

The first step is getting clear on how you want to look and feel. Journal a bit. How do you want to feel? Also how do you want to be perceived when you walk into a room. Then take a few steps to change up your look. Save images of things you like. Hairstyles, clothes, makeup. Simple changes make a large impact. Try something different than what you typically do. Play with different colors, try a semi permanent hair dye. Incorporate a new print into your look. Play with a new silhouette. Sign up for a clothing rental company like Rent The Runway to try styles without committing to buying new items. See how you feel in the pieces.

A beauty makeover usually includes skincare, hair updates, and a few fresh makeup touches. For affordable skincare, brands like The Ordinary
are great for effective serums and treatments. Instead of a haircut, try hair extensions
—there are great, budget-friendly options on Amazon. And for makeup, focus on an eyeshadow palette
with lots of colors to play with different looks. Brands like e.l.f.
make fun, high-quality palettes and products that won’t break the bank.

Hey! I totally went through this feeling a couple months ago and there are definitely a few things that really helped me feel confident about how I look and you don't even have to spend a ton of money.
1. Try out a new hairstyle. Look for inspo pics and ask your stylist to try a new cut or color.
2. Go through your closet and find the clothes that make you feel the best. Get rid of (or transform) the clothes you don't like, and check out thrift stores for some cheap new pieces to add to your wardrobe.
3. Don't forget about your skincare routine! Take care of your face and moisturize so you're always looking your best.
4. Experiment with some new makeup styles. There are tons of tutorials online, so just find a pic of makeup you like and try to recreate it if you can!
5. Cut out junk food and really take care of your body. Eat some healthy foods, start exercising, and you'll def get the boost in confidence.

most of the time, people who insult others are also insecure and taking it out on others so don't pay attention to the haters

Drinking more water always helps me feel more refreshed and confident about how I look. The extra hydration gives me more energy and helps clear up my skin. It also curbs my snack cravings and eases my bloating, which makes me feel better in my clothes.
I know that drinking water isn't going to make an immediate difference in your appearance though. What I like to do for that is change up my hair. My hair is straight, so I like to curl it when I want a different look. I use a curling iron, but if you don't have one you can still give your hair some waves or curls by taking a shower, braiding your hair while it's still wet, and leaving it in for a few hours or sleeping with it overnight. If your hair is curly, you can use a straighener.

There are totally low-budget ways to give yourself a makeover at home! I love accessorizing to breathe new life into my old outfits. I experiment with different earrings, necklaces, hair accessories, and belts. I also try different ways of layering my clothes. For example, I put a black turtleneck under a button-down shirt and it really elevated the outfit! Painting my nails also adds a pop of color to my outfit.

If you have friends who wear the same size clothes as you, you can give yourself a makeover by swapping clothes with them! It's free and gives you access to a ton of new wardrobe pieces. Your friend may also have accessories and beauty products that you can use to change up your look. Just be cautious about sharing things like eye or lip makeup that are applied directly to your eyes and lips, as that isn't the most sanitary.

I always recommend editing your closet first–you might actually be surprised at how many great things you already have! For making changes to your closet that don't cost much, I have a few ideas. One of my clients took a lot of the clothes that she had where the colors didn't work for them anymore, and she dyed them to colors that were in her seasonal color palette and that she liked more. So dyeing your clothes is definitely an option. Also, you bring up such a great idea with the clothing swap! You can go to a good clothing swap, or you can even host one yourself. I have a client that facilitates them locally – I'll let my clients know that it's occurring and invite them to come, and they'll all bring the clothes that they no longer want, and they'll swap with someone else who wants them. It's also just a really fun thing to do between girlfriends!

Start by doing a patch test
first before applying it to your face to rule out an allergy or sensitivity as a cause. As nothing else will matter if you are allergic to the product. Once you have determined this is not the case, take baby steps.
Next, while it may be tempting to apply all of the new products you received, too much or using products that do not mix well together will amplify skin issues. It is best to try the products individually to see if you have a reaction before layering the skincare.
For example, avoid layering potent actives like retinol with AHAs/BHAs or vitamin C with benzoyl peroxide, as these combos can lead to irritation or reduce effectiveness. Also, look at the potency. For example, a retinol product . Those with higher percentages need to be worked up to. Just because it is stronger does not mean it is a great option for your skin.
Lastly, look for formulas labeled as fragrance-free, hypoallergenic, or skincare products made for sensitive skin . And if a reaction does occur, stop using the product immediately and give your skin time to heal before introducing anything new.

I looked up videos on "how to style clothes" and that was really helpful for learning how to take the clothes I already have and make them look better by layering them, accessorizing them, and wearing them in combinations I hadn't considered before.

I'm not an expert on makeovers but you could always get some new clothes from a charity shop and get a subtle hair cut if you arn't confident fully changing the way you look and need a cheap solution. (Plus the money goes to charity)
