How many times should I talk to someone online before meeting them?
I'd suggest that you have at least 5 conversations online before meeting up with someone. The exception might be if you meet on Tinder or Bumble and there's a crazy immediate connection where the two of you share some mutual interest, but in general, you want to chat a few times before meeting up.

I think if you are trying to flirt through text messages, it's okay to use emojis here and there. You don't want to overuse them, because that'll come off as too eager. You don't want to stick on one topic for too long. Keep the conversations fun and lighthearted so the person is interested to continue the conversation. Show that interest and that common ground and then it'll make the other person excited as well.
