Hey, title kinda explains it all. Overheard someone recently call me "skinny fat" and I've never even heard the term before. Like, it sounds nice AND mean at the same time, but I really don't know what to make of it. Is it a bad thing to be skinny fat or am I okay?

So, skinny fat is when you look like you're skinny and have a normal BMI, but you have a higher fat percentage and not a lot of muscle definition. There's "visceral" fat that builds up behind your abs and isn't really visible on the outside, so it still looks like you have a slim frame.

Being skinny fat isn't the worst thing, but it can still affect your health later on if you're not taking care of yourself. Make sure that you're eating a healthy diet packed with protein and healthy carbs, and incorporate some strength training into your workout routine so you keep building more muscle than fat. About 30 minutes of exercise each day can do the trick.

I've heard people say that you're skinny fat if you look skinny with a shirt on but then when you take it off you can see a little bit of a belly or maybe some saggy pecs, depends on where you hold your fat. There's a definite lack of muscle in people who are skinny fat. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing, since people who are skinny fat are still typically a healthy weight. You can just consider trying to build more muscle.

People who are fit think you're fat and people who are fat think you're skinny lol. There are so many terms for people's bodies popping up, you don't have to pay them any mind or give them the power to affect how you feel about your body. Do you like your body? Great. Is there something you want to change about your body and do you have the ability to change it? Then you can do something about it.
