You can try both a mattifying and a hydrating or illuminating and apply the mattifying one where you are oily and the luminizing one where you are more dry or just to the high points of your face if you are more normal there. If you only want to buy 1 primer, just apply your skincare and then lotion all over, let it sink in 15 minutes or so, and apply a mattifying primer to your t-zone.

I’m 55 and have combo skin. Used to be oily 24/7. Now age is causing dryness. I have some small acne scars and rosacea too. What foundation and primer should I use?

Make sure you use a balancing moisturizer first (both hydrating and mattifying). Then, follow up with a hydrating and soothing primer to make sure your skin does not dry out over the day and produce more oils. Look for dimethicone on the ingredient list, since this helps to mattify the complexion and fights the accumulation of oil. Soothing ingredients like niacinamide, centella asiatica, and chamomile, further up the redness-reducing benefits. Prepping skin with a green-tinted primer, is also one of the most effective ways to knock out rosacea-induced redness.
