Position a fan in an open window so it blows the hot air outside and pulls cooler air inside.
  • Question
When my room is hot, I always open a window, but moths get in. What could I do? When I turn the fan on, it just blows hot air around.
    Community Answer
Get a screen for your window, and/or make sure all your lights are off, as moths are attracted to light. If you have a box fan, you could also put that inside your window, as that will blow cooler air from outside in through your window (and moths won't be able to make it through the fan as easily).
  • Question
How do I cool down a room without a window in it?
    Community Answer
Use a lot of fans to circulate the air. Add shades to any external walls affecting that room, to try to stop the outside from overheating and warming up the room without a window. If possible, leave the door to that room open but only if the air outside that door is both cooler and is flowing in some way (such as by use of other fans). Keep anything hot out of that room (no heating, no stoves, not too many humans or pets in there, etc.). If it stays too warm, consider trying to work around using this room during hotter months and only use it during the cooler ones.
  • Question
How do I cool down a room if I only have a window?
    Community Answer
Buy a box fan that you can put in the window to help the air circulate better. There's not much you can do with only a window.
  • Question
How do I cool down my room if I have a PC that's making it warm?
    Community Answer
Remove the PC from your room. If you can't, don't use it unless you have to. You can also cool down your room by placing forever-cool mats underneath bedding or furniture or around the room, as well as opening a window. Also, try placing a freezing cold water bottle in your room.
  • Question
I have a box fan. It cools the room down, but how can I make it cooler?
    Community Answer
Place a large bowl of ice sprinkled with salt in front of the fan. (The salt will make the ice even colder.)
  • Question
How do I pick the best thermal curtains?
    Community Answer
For the best insulation, look for a thermal curtain that has at least two layers, triple-woven fabric, and blackout technology to eliminate light and even noise. And while it may initially seem like the bigger the price tag, the better the quality, that's not actually the case.
