  • Question
Why should I drop the negative sign of a negative integer?
    Community Answer
It depends on what the question asks. If you're adding, you forget positives and negatives, choose the greater number, and then subtract the other number from the former. The answer has whatever sign the greater number has. If you have 2 negative signs when you're adding or subtracting(say you have this 5 - neg. 5) then you change that number into a positive (5+5). Multiplying and dividing is different. Say this is your question: 5 x -7 x -6. There are two negatives and one positive, so the answer is negative, but you solve it like there are no signs. If there were to be an equal number of positives and negatives, you would go with positive always.
