  • Question
I'm 17 and my parents still block certain websites from me, such as YouTube and social media. How can I talk to them about letting me use those websites and convince them to remove the controls?
    Community Answer
Tell them you're mature enough to have them unblocked, explain to them that you are at the age where you do not need these restrictions. If any normal reasoning doesn't get past them, you could just bypass it with some basic research.
  • Question
I am on parental restrictions and safety mode always stays on YouTube no matter how many times I turn it off. So how do I take it off without it coming back? (For an iPad)
    Community Answer
For any mobile device, your best course of action is to restore the device to its factory settings. To do this with an iPad, for example, you'd need to open iTunes on your computer, hook up the iPad with the USB cable, select the device when it appears in iTunes, and then click "Restore iPad" under the summary tab. Note that you should ALWAYS back up your files before a reset like this.

    Community Answer
Your Microsoft account needs your date of birth updated, or you could create another account in which your date of birth places you over the age of 18.

  • Question
My parents block all "inappropriate" websites. How do I talk to them about it without it getting awkward?
    Community Answer
There may not be a way around it getting awkward, depending on what websites you're trying to use. Try saying something like, "Mom, dad, I'm getting older now and I think I've shown you that I'm responsible, so I was hoping you could take the parental controls off the computer."
  • Question
How do I bypass parental controls on my Xbox One?
    Community Answer
Xbox ones have a Mac address changer in the settings. Go to advanced settings and select clear and your Xbox will restart. And will have a new network address that will need to have parental restrictions added to it manually. You can do this as many times as you need.

    Community Answer
If you want to bypass parental controls on your mobile device, you can perform a factory reset. If parental controls are enabled on your router, you will not be able to factory reset your phone. Using a VPN or proxy site may be the best option if this is the case.
  • Question
My parents put a time limit on me using Optus parental controls ,so at a specific time my internet just cuts out. Can I bypass this?
    Community Answer
If you are on a PC, then download software called TMAC, remove the home network from your computer (how you would go about doing this depends on your Windows version), run TMAC, select your active network device (most likely either a wireless device or Ethernet device) and click, "change mac address". Then close it, change your computer's name, restart, and reconnect to the internet. You should now have bypassed router level controls. Keep in mind that if your parents see that a strange, new device has been added to the internet, you will probably get caught. If you are using an Xbox, it has a Mac Address changer, and if you are on a phone, just use mobile data.
