The butterfly stroke is definitely the hardest. Still, you shouldn't center your workout around this stroke; instead, try swimming a simpler stroke (like freestyle) at a harder pace.

Definitely! Swimming on its own is pretty low impact, and your heart rate is going to be lower compared to running or cycling. So, you'll need to push yourself a bit harder in order to have a bigger caloric burn.

Focus on leg workouts with swimming. Push your legs harder and do more leg exercises in the water. When swimming don't just mess about, pretend you are in the Olympics and push and push.

In order to get slimmer thighs, you'll need to lose weight. Keep swimming and eat healthier. In the meantime, work on accepting yourself. Bigger thighs are in these days!
  • Question
I've been swimming for five years, three times a week but my thighs are not skinny. What should I do?
    Community Answer
Swimming makes your legs stronger, but that doesn't mean they will be skinnier. It is good if your legs are not skinny because it means you are growing muscle.
  • Question

    Community Answer
    Freestyle, breaststroke, and butterfly.
  • Question
In menopause, inner thighs are flabby and looks pitted with cellulite. Will front crawl tone them up?
    Top Answerer
Yes. But it may take a while. Swimming (any style) is a great way to reduce overall body fat and get your body in shape without putting too much stress on it from weights or impact. So if you keep swimming, sure, you'll get leaner. But not if you don't also eat healthy, drink lots of water and, most of all, sleep well. You'd be surprised how much a regular sleeping pattern helps with everything. Exercise is only a small part of weight loss.
  • Question
Does it also help to get a thigh gap?
    Community Answer
Sometimes. Free and back strokes use mostly the quads (front of the leg), illipsoas (front, top of hip), hamstrings (back of leg), and lower glute. Breast, though, uses the adductors - if those get large, then your thigh gap is lost to muscle. Fly kick uses mostly the quad, hamstring, and core. Keep in mind that these all use the inner thigh muscle, too, if done properly, but appropriate stretching can prevent them from getting too bulky.
  • Question
Is it realistic enough to do 25 meters, as I'm very good at swimming?
    Community Answer
Sure, but start with 25 meters, and when you can do that easily, push it to 35, then 45, etc.
