  • Question
Should the murderer know his role?
    Caligirl617
    Community Answer
Some games have the murderer know, and some don't. In general, it is better for the murderer to not know, since he could unintentionally ruin it if he does.
  • Question
Would teens (age 14 - 15) enjoy a murder mystery party?
    Community Answer
Yes, if you can get them into the spirit of it, wear costumes and getting into character, they definitely will. They may be apprehensive at first, but once they start playing, they'll have a blast.
  • Question
Once the murder has been solved, what do we do? If it had been planned to last longer, or something goes wrong, what should I do during the extra time?
    Community Answer
Ideally, characters should have secondary goals to ensure that not only are they trying to find out what happened, but they also have an angle to interact with one another. The old rich uncle everybody hated died under mysterious circumstances. Everybody wants to find out how, but also Wilma needs to make sure her name is on the will after her very public fallout with her father, Sally needs to find a way to tarnish the old man's memory because he was abusive, Jack wants to hide or destroy evidence that he was blackmailing his employer after witnessing said abuse, etc etc. The more intertwined your stories and characters are the better
  • Question
When does the person die, before or after the guests arrive?
    DeckTheHalls
    Community Answer
During would be good. You could have the lights go out (make sure it's really dark), or have the victim scream in another room.
  • Question
What should I write in the clues?
    Community Answer
You could write riddles or something that will help with solving the murder.
  • Question
Can I host a murder mystery party for kids?
    Community Answer
Sure. Age doesn't matter. Some kids like them, some don't. Check with their parents to make sure it's okay first.
  • Question
How do I get the conversation started between characters? Is it just a matter of reading out the script? And if so, how do I know who starts?
    Community Answer
Allow the party host to let each character introduce who they are and just a bit of background. Then, select and a murder, perhaps by having each person draw slips, or with cards. It's your choice. Then, let the murderer do their job. Until then, tell your guests to suspect everything and trust no-one. It ends when someone accuses them or until they "kill" everybody.
  • Question
Should the person know they are the murderer or no?
    Community Answer
Yes, everyone should be given a different script with their own role and directions written on it.
  • Question
I am confused. Everyone just walks around with a script and says what their lines say?
    Community Answer
You can get a kit and it comes with a card for info. There will be key details on the card and how you should behave (especially toward certain people/topics), but you improvise the role, there are very few lines you would read (other than by way of an introduction or during specific events).
  • Question
How long should this party last?
    Community Answer
You can let it last until the person chosen as the murderer has "killed" everybody, or, to make it fun, do an overnight special! At least an hour, maybe several hours in all.
  • Question
How does the murder occur? Do I tell the guest that they are the one who is supposed to die? Also, where can I get help writing a script?
    Community Answer
You can get a kit with a pre-made script. Otherwise, it's up to you to make your own -- follow the article's suggestions.
  • Question
How many clues should there be?
    Community Answer
I would suggest having at least 10 clues to keep the game interesting.
  • Question
How much does a murder mystery party kit cost?
    Community Answer
It costs 25-70 dollars. If you want it to have even more things, it can go up to 100 dollars.
  • Question
How do I decide who's the murderer for a murder mystery party?
    Community Answer
Pick a person who can keep it a secret if they know, or someone who’s least expected.
  • Question
Where do I buy the kit?
    Community Answer
    Amazon or mymysteryparty.com.
  • Question
Can the host be the one that gets murdered when hosting a murder mystery party?
    Community Answer
Yes, but they will probably need to have at least one other person who is "in on" the whole story to keep the party moving along while the host is "dead."
  • Question
Is there a comfortable maximum number of persons per Murder Mystery, and what is a good ratio of cast actors to guests?
    Community Answer
10 is the maximum guest number so if you wanted, the murderer could 'kill' some characters to make it more realistic. For the ratio of cast to guests, it is recommended to have 2 to 1.
  • Question
How do I adjust my murder mystery party if some of the characters won't be used?
    Community Answer
Just leave the roles not used out. Like, say you have 30 roles and 20 people, then the ten extra roles will not be used.
  • Question
Can I make it vampire themed?
    Community Answer
Of course! You can give it any theme you want!
