Cover your windows with blinds or shades to prevent sunlight from coming inside and heating the space.
  • Question
Should I keep one window open when the AC is on for ventilation?
    Community Answer
No, when the AC is running there is no need to open a window. Ventilation will occur from the AC itself.
  • Question
Should the upstairs doors be open or closed to keep it cooler?
    Community Answer
You may keep the doors open to create a cooler space.
  • Question
If I shut some of the downstairs vents, will it force cooler air upstairs?
    Community Answer
Yes, it will force more air out of all remaining vents - therefore, upstairs.
  • Question
Is the air conditioner supposed to run all day and night?
    Community Answer
Once the set temperature is reached, the unit should shut off until temperatures rise enough for the unit to kick back on. There are setback temperature settings you can employ on the thermostat too.
  • Question
Are there any devices that will force cold air from the basement ducts upstairs to the bedrooms?
    Community Answer
The only one I can think of without spending a lot of money is to close down a little on the supply and return vent louvers in your basement. This will direct supply air (cool air) more to your rooms and have better return air from your rooms to cool more efficiently. Also, keep bedroom doors shut during the day if possible. Areas outside of bedrooms and bathrooms sometimes do not have supply or return and can get considerably hot.
