There are chapters in the Bible, in them there are lines or verses. These verses when numbered in order, make it easier to find them, like in a dictionary. If someone says find Matthew chapter 1 verse 10, you can easily find Matthew and the line marked as 10. If they say Matthew chapter 1 verse 10-12, that means they want you to see line number 10, 11 and 12 (10 through 12).
