  • Question
What can I add to give my soap some color?
    Community Answer
You can add some food coloring, but that may stain your hands and/or dishes. You can also try getting some soap-making dye either from an arts and crafts store, or from an online soap-making supply shop.
  • Question
Which type of bar soap can I use for the basic liquid soap?
    Community Answer
    Dove soap works well.
  • Question
The water in my area is VERY hard. Castile soap binds with the minerals in the water, leaving behind a stubborn soap scum. Any substitute for the castile?

Many people boil vinegar, let it sit/scrub it and then put water on it. Scrub roughly, but don't scratch the surface.
  • Question
Can I add natural indicators to soap to get more colors (eg. litmus for blue soap, china rose powder for light green soap, turmeric for brown soap and red cabbage juice for dark green soap)?
    Community Answer
Yes, but I would not recommend this unless there is some reason you need it to be colored.
  • Question
How can I add fresh mint to my home made detergent? Is it safe to dry and crush to a powder then add to the soap? Will the smell be as effective?

    Community Answer
Yes, it is safe to dry and crush it, then after you'll mix it together. No, the smell would not be that effective. And also, to make a fresh mint detergent without adding any soap, you can just smash it then grind it.
  • Question
Is it compulsory to add essential oil or can I put any type of oil?
    HumanBeing

Essential oils add fragrance to soaps, cleansers etc. If you want your liquid dish soap to smell good, you need to add essential oils. If you add other oils, for example olive oil or walnut oil, your liquid dish soap will neither clean your dishes nor smell good.

Coconut oil soap is a good substitute you can use instead. It is safe to use for cleaning vegetables, washing or shaving your body and face and keeping your pets clean without drying out their skin.
