When mildew is present in clothes, it typically means that the clothes have been sitting in water for a period of time. My recommendation is to initially run those clothes through another cycle. Depending on how strong the scent of mildew is, I recommend using OxiClean. Try pre-soaking the clothes with OxiClean and then running the cycle through using your detergent.
