  • Question
How do I judge the size of the wire, thread, beads and end clasps?
    Community Answer
Wrap the wire and thread around your wrist to test the length.
  • Question
How do I string disc beads with a hole in the center, and get them to lay flat?
    Community Answer
You can't. The nature of those beads makes it impossible for them to lay flat.
  • Question
How many beads does it take to make a bracelet?
    Community Answer
It depends on how big the person's wrist is and how large the beads are. Measure the person's wrist if possible and then put beads on the string until it reaches the right size.
  • Question
Where is a good place to buy beads?
    Community Answer
Depends. FireMountain has awesome beads and it discloses all treatments, such as dyeing, heating, or coating of beads. So if you like 100% natural gemstone beads, FireMountain's great. Etsy has some nice beads at better prices but doesn't disclose much about treatments. eBay is the best place to get decent beads at an awesome price if you don't mind bidding and waiting sometimes up to a month for your package from Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia, etc. Of course, eBay sellers don't normally disclose treatments made to their beads, BUT you can get a 15&1/2" string of 6-8mm gemstone beads for about a buck (free shipping too!) by mindful bidding.
  • Question
What beads are good for beginners?
    Community Answer
Plastic or glass would be a good choice. They are available at most craft stores, or even box stores with craft sections. Additionally, they are not too pricey.
  • Question
What size elastic thread for beads is needed?
    Eva Gordillo
    Community Answer
It depends on the beads. The smaller the beads, the smaller the string. The bigger the beads, then it is up to you.
