It can cause some irritation or razor burn if you aren't careful or you're shaving super often. This wouldn't normally be a huge deal though, and most people generally don't need to shave all that often.

I'm super fond of sugaring or laser treatments for armpit hair. Sugaring involves heating sugar, water, and lemon juice and then working that into your skin to remove hair at the follicle. Laser treatments are done in a professional office or salon. Both of those are good options if you don't want to shave.
  • Question
    Should I be scared?
    Community Answer
No. As long as you shave it slowly, shaving the opposite side your hair grows, you should be fine. After you shave, make sure you add a lotion to prevent ingrown hairs.
  • Question
If I shave my armpits, will the hair grow back?
    Community Answer
Yes it will, unfortunately. If you want your hair to grow back more slowly, I'd suggest laser hair removal, waxing, or Nair.
  • Question
Why are my armpits dark even after I shave?
    Community Answer
Shaving only chops the top bit of the hair, leaving dark roots still under your arms.

    Community Answer
No. Your skin may be a little irritated at first, but it's really not all that painful.

  • Question
