QuestionHow do I teach kids to serve the ball?Community AnswerI am a volleyball coach, and the way I teach them is to throw the ball over the net. This will help them with their motion. Once everyone gets it over a few times, I help them find how high they should toss the ball for overhand serving, and where to place their hand for underhand serving. Once they learn that, you can teach them the little details. Just remember: one step at a time. Side note: I would only use underhand serving as a last resort (for much smaller players or players who are having trouble). The faster they learn to overhand serve, the better it will be for them in the long run.
