  • Question
How do I convert minutes into military time?
    Community Answer
The minutes stay the same as on a 12-hour system. You just won't use terms like a quarter after, a quarter to, half past, etc. So let's say it's 1:17 P.M. You would say it's 1317 (thirteen-seventeen) hours.
  • Question
How do I tell military time on a 24-hour clock?
    Community Answer
The military clock starts at midnight, known as 0000 hours. This is called "Zero Hundred Hours." Instead of having a twelve-hour clock that resets twice, in military time, you work with one clock that starts with 0000 at midnight and runs all the way until 2359 hours (11:59 p.m.) until it resets at 0000 hours at midnight again. Note that the military clock does not use the colon to separate the hours and minutes.
  • Question
Why is there a 0 in front of 0630?
    Community Answer
It simply shows that it is earlier in the day rather than later. In some sense, the zero is not necessary but it is just a formality that makes time keeping clear.
  • Question
In the video it says I can pronounce 0000 as twenty four hundred, while the passage above says it's zero hundred hours. Which is true?
    Community Answer
Both are true, depending on who you ask. Midnight is like an ace card, it can be either really high or really low, so 2400 or 0000. Many times people use the first to denote a day ending, and the second to denote a day beginning. For example, Thursday ended at 2400, but Friday begins at 0000. They mean the same, and either use is just fine.
  • Question
What is the military time equivalent of 15 minutes past midnight?
    Community Answer
Since midnight is denoted as 0000, simply add 15. This would give a result of 0015.
  • Question
How do I write 19 and a half hours?

  • Question
Is 1:45 pm equal to 13:45 in military time?
    Community Answer
No, 1:45 pm is equal to 1345 in military time (note the absence of the colon).
  • Question
Why do people say 24-hour time is the same thing as military time, despite the two being different in terms of how they're written and pronounced?
    Community Answer
Because the basic idea and function is the same. Military time works exactly the same as 24-hour time (as opposed to 12-hour time), and the numbers/times are the same, there's just no colon and it's pronounced a little differently out loud.
  • Question
How do people make telling military time look so easy?
    Community Answer
Like anything else repeated often enough, it becomes second nature. If you made a point of using military time, it would probably become automatic for you, too.
  • Question
Are 60 minutes the same in normal and military time?
    Community Answer
Yes, but once you hit sixty, it becomes the new hour. For example, 14:00 would not be "thirteen sixty hours."
  • Question
How would I say 8 PM in military time?
    Community Answer
Military time is simply the number of the hour. Rather than after 12:00 going back to 1:00, you would go from 12:00 to 13:00. Thus, 8 PM would be 20:00.

If in the morning, it will be 0845. If in the evening, it would be 2045. When calculating military time in the evening, just add 12 to the time. 12 + 8 = 20, so 8:45 will be 2045.
