While you're still in a plank position, you can bring one knee at a time into your chest to do mountain climbers, which are great exercises for toning abs. Aim to do 25 on each side.

    Expert Answer
Perform your exercises using a modified range of motion, then identify which exercises you can do without aggravating your sciatica. For example, planks would be a good place to start, as they're less likely to bother your sciatica.
  • Question
When I do an ab workout, I only feel pain in my neck. Am I not doing enough ab workouts?
    Community Answer
No. If you feel pain in your neck, it doesn't necessarily mean you aren't doing enough ab workouts; you just need to find the right workout. You may also be doing something incorrectly, which is causing a stress on your neck.
  • Question
The only reason I want to do this is so I can wear a two part bathing suit to the pool without embarrassing myself, so can someone help me?
    Community Answer
If someone cares what you look like in a bathing suit, then they for sure aren’t worth your time. But if you’re doing it for yourself, then follow a routine workout with the exercises above 3-4 times a week (more often won’t allow your muscles to rebuild), and eat plenty of protein and grains.
  • Question
If I get the body I've always wanted after doing workouts daily and I stop working out, will the toned body fade?
    Top Answerer
Yes. Your body watches what you do on a daily basis, throughout the weeks, and adjusts itself to that. Work outdoors? Your skin will darken. Are you a diver - your heart and lungs will expand. A doctor exposed to coughs and sneezes all day? Your immune system will ramp up. So if you follow a weekly routine that resulted in the abs you wanted, you'll have to keep it up for as long as you want the abs.
  • Question
If I'm overweight, how long should it take to get a flat stomach?
    Community Answer
It will take several months, if not longer, for you to get a flat stomach. Persistence is key when it comes to exercise!
  • Question
Can I only do plank workouts? Will it be effective and give me results?
    Community Answer
Planks will really help and they'll definitely be effective, but a varied workout is pretty much always the way to go. It just depends on how toned you want to be.
  • Question
When I do ab workouts, I have this terrible pain in my lower back like I cannot breathe. What should I do?
    Community Answer
First, stretch for 5-10 minutes prior to beginning any ab workouts. If that doesn't help the problem, then start doing the ab workouts less often. If the issue continues, see a doctor to rule out any medical issues or injuries.
  • Question
What are some ab exercises I can do while standing?
    E.J Lopez
    Community Answer
Stand with your feet a hip's width apart. Hold a dumbbell straight out in front of your chest with both hands. Move your torso slightly and slowly begin to rotate your arms to the right as far as you can. Pause, and then rotate in the opposite direction. Do 10 reps total.
  • Question
How long should I train for?
    Community Answer
Until you get to your goal of health/fitness. Your goal will provide you a stopping point if you don't want to do the activity any longer. However, it all depends on you.
  • Question
I am doing this to go to a pool party shirtless for a girl I like. It's in three weeks, so how can I do this quickly?
    Community Answer
If the only reason you want to have abs is to impress girls, you are better off looking into Fake Abs . Three weeks is a very limited time frame and would require a very strict nutrition and workout plan.
  • Question
While doing planks (especially full planks) I get an awful pain in my wrists (my wrists are really small 14cm around). How can I get less pain during exercise?
    Community Answer
Go to the doctor, you might have a ganglion cyst. It is painful but doesn't harm your wrists. You can try to avoid exercises where you are putting a strain on your wrists or use handles on the ground to straighten your wrists and take some of the pressure off of them.
  • Question
How do you stay away from becoming lazy and not exercising?
    Community Answer
Get someone to exercise with you and hold you accountable! It makes the workout much more fun and helps you and your friend keep each other on track.
  • Question
I find it difficult to do lower leg lifts. Should my spine be straight in this exercise?
    Community Answer
It’s very important to keep your back flat on the ground. When on your back, push your belly button to the floor to brace your core. Another tip is place your hands just under your bum.
  • Question
I'm a slightly underweight guy, how long would it take me to get abs? Just curious, I've only been doing them for about 2 weeks.
    Community Answer
View exercise as a life long enjoyment. Getting abs takes time and varies per person. Other factors on how long it takes are your diet and what other forms of exercises you do. If you eat healthy mostly and exercise regularly (every day if possible), you will see results in time, maybe in a few months, depending on the amount of exercise you are doing and the type of diet you are eating. But unfortunately it takes longer then a few weeks.
  • Question
I fast on Sundays every week, will that stop me from obtaining abs?
    Raphael Key
    Top Answerer
No, it shouldn't. Visible abs are generally a result of having a lower amount of body fat, so eating less food per week will almost certainly help you make your abs show. However, if you're already quite thin and you don't have abs, then you should probably attempt to build up the muscles. You will need more food for this but don't go overboard!
  • Question
I'm going to eat some peeps how should I not get fat?
    Community Answer
You can eat peeps. It's alright. Just don't eat an excessive amount.

The only thing you will build exercising in the toilet are hemorrhoids. Relax yourself during bathroom time, it should be enjoyed as it is one of the only times both the conscious and subconscious minds connect.
  • Question
I fast on Sundays every week, will that stop me from obtaining abs?
    Community Answer
Probably not enough to be concerned about. As long as you are getting a good amount of protein, calories, and everything you need, you should be able to get muscles by working out.
