Without a Keyboard

  1. Whether it's a screenshot of a game's tricky secret information or some other dialog box, bring yourself to the point where you'd like to screenshot.
  2. It's usually at the top of the device just to the right of the power button. This is only one of two buttons you'll need to press consecutively to capture your screenshot.
    • On older Surface models such as the original Surface and Surface 2, the switch will be on the left side of the tablet when holding it in landscape mode.

  3. This is the second button of the two you'll need to use to capture your screenshot. When the screen flickers, you'll know the screenshot is complete and you can release both buttons.
    • On a Surface 3, this button will be on the very right-hand side of the tablet when you're holding it in landscape mode.
    • On a Surface 2, this button will be at the very bottom when you're holding it in landscape mode.

  2. It's located in the top row of your keyboard, with the F8 key. This will copy the screen to your clipboard, so you're not done yet.
    • If you don't see the PrtScrn button, press and hold Fn + Windows key + Spacebar .
    • If this didn't capture a screenshot, you may need to disable the Fn key. Press it to make the LED turn off, then try again.
  3. You can do this by opening the Paint app in your Windows menu, right-clicking a blank area of the canvas, and then selecting Paste . After pasting, you can save the image anywhere on your Surface by selecting File and then Save As .
