Basic Rules
* Each game consists of ten frames
* Each player gets two shots in each frame to knock down as many of the pins as they can
* If a player knocks down all ten pins in one shot, they’re awarded a strike
* If a player knocks down all ten pins in one frame, they’re awarded a spare
* The maximum number of points in a “perfect game” is 300
Scoring
* One point is scored for each pin knocked over during a frame
* A strike is scored as an “X” on the score sheet
* When a player gets a strike, they are awarded ten points plus the total number of points for their next frame.
Example:
Frame 1: Strike
Frame 2, ball 1: 4 pins
Frame 2, ball 2: 5 pins
Frame 1 points = 10+4+5=19
Frame 2 points = 4+5=9
Total = 28
* If a player scores back to back strikes, they would score like this:
Frame 1, ball 1: Strike
Frame 2, ball 1: Strike
Frame 3, ball 1: 4 pins
Frame 3, ball 2: 5 pins
Frame 1 points = 10+(10+4)=24
Frame 2 points = 10+(4+5)=19
Frame 3 points = 4+5=9
Total = 52
* 30 points is the maximum for any frame
* If a strike is bowled in the 10th frame, the player is awarded two extra shots
* A spare is represented on the scorecard by a “/”
* If a player achieves a spare, they are awarded a bonus of their next ball (only one ball opposed to a strike, which gives bonus points for the next two shots)
