The Outpost: Aesthetic Outline
Overall Theme:
Being a far-future graphic novel, the aesthetics will capture a gritty, dirty feel with an interweaving of future technology.
The Outpost:
The setting for The Outpost will be reminiscent of an old world desert city strung with high-tech power and computer interfaces. The streets aren’t paved and people dress for a desert climate, some in more modern fashion, while others are wearing robes and turbans. There are few vehicles, but those that exist are representative of armored cars. They have heavy, off-road-type tires, or even tank treads.
The Dark Order:
The headquarters of the Dark Order is very high-tech and clean. The floors, walls, and ceilings look like polished metal. The doors are automated and slide apart when they detect people. Overall, the place has a dark, lonely feel. Everything inside has a touch of noir, with long, dark shadows and dramatic lighting.
The Outlands:
The Outlands are miles of surrounding landscape, from desert mountains full of jagged rocks, scorpions, and dust, to forests reaching into the horizon. The biggest feeling they should convey is their desolation and loneliness.
During their trek across the outlands, the Eight will encounter a ghost town. The buildings are abandoned and quiet. The remnants of the plague are still visible, cast in decomposing time and covered in wind-blown dust and sand.
The Second Colony:
The alien city will have an organic but futuristic feel. The aliens will be a cross between cyborgs, humans, and insects. Therefore, the inside of their colony will have brightly colored walls with both metal and wire, and hive-like tubes interconnected on the walls.
Inside the core of the colony will have a feeling of enormity. The ceiling is beyond the view of the lights within, reaching into darkness. The core itself will be a tower within the center of the room with all sorts of cables, tubes, and wires going to and from it.
