Induction Ceremony for the Covert Detection Society Before the beginning of an induction ceremony, lights must be dimmed and candles lit. Members who are attending the initiation but not participating should remain silent and maintain an appropriate attitude of solemnity during the ceremony. All members in attendance must wear formal hats. The inductee is to be blindfolded prior to entering the room. The aspiring detective will be led down the aisle by detectives positioned on either arm. Once the inductee has reached the podium, the guiding detectives will stand on either side of the podium, facing the aspiring detective. The head detective will begin the ritual dialog with the inductee: 1. "Who petitions this group to join its illustrious ranks?" 1. The inductee will state his or her name. 1. "Do you solemnly swear to devote yourself to pursuit of detection, to seek knowledge wherever it may be found, to use dispassionate logic and reason in your search for the truth, to join as a brother/sister your fellow detectives, to protect, serve, and uphold the principles of this society so long as it is possible to do so?" 1. The inductee will swear to do so. 1. "Then remove your blindfold, which represents the inability to perceive the truth, and light the candle of reason." 1. Inductee removes blindfold.
