RE: Benjamin Waller
Start your letter with a salutation. It is appropriate to write either “Dear Judge [Last Name]” of simply “Your Honor”
Your Honor,
Briefly introduce yourself and your profession. Highlight your credentials so that your defense holds more weight.
My name is Brenda Appleton. I own and operate several successful medical research agencies on the East Coast.
Provide a general statement of support on behalf of the defendant.
I respectfully request that you consider dismissing the charges in the case of Anyplace County vs. Benjamin Waller. Benjamin has a bright and promising career in front of him, and it would be a great disservice to the community if he were to be convicted of the pending charges.
Explain how you know the defendant, and highlight any positive character traits.
Benjamin has worked at our flagship operation for the past 8 years, and was one of our first employees at that location. From day one, he has been an incredibly hard and dedicated worker, often the first to arrive at the office and the last to leave. He has grown from an intern to a highly competent research analyst and consultant.
To conclude, explain why the defendant should not be prosecuted.
Benjamin forwarded the incriminating documents in complete ignorance. He was at first not aware he had committed a crime, but once he understood the seriousness of his actions, he came directly to me. From the beginning to the end of this unfortunate affair, Benjamin has acted with humility and integrity, character traits that should be celebrated, not punished. I strongly urge you to consider an alternative to the pending charges.
Sincerely,
Brenda Appleton, Founder and Director of Research Solutions Inc.
