If you’ve held a Sonny Angel, you might’ve noticed something a little weird about its head. Maybe it feels loose, or maybe it came off by accident. Is that supposed to happen? Does it mean it’s fake? The answer to this is not necessarily! Sometimes Sonny Angels’ heads are supposed to come off, but on some dolls, it’s not supposed to happen. Are Sonny Angel heads removable?
The heads on the standing Sonny Angel dolls are removable and usually come off pretty easily, and that’s on purpose. On the other hand, the heads on the Hipper series, which are lying down, are much more difficult to come off, and they aren’t meant to be removed.

1The heads on the standing Angels do come off easily. On the standard, standing Sonny Angel dolls, the heads do come off. This is on purpose and by design! It’s so that you can easily swap the heads from one body to another to customize and mix-and-match your dolls. This has been verified by many Reddit threads and TikToks .
- How do you take the heads off? Gently pull the head straight up from the body. You may need to shimmy, shake, and twist it a bit, but the head will come off with little to no resistance. If it does seem hard, don’t force it—it may need to loosen up with time.
- How do you put the heads back on? Just press the head onto the body, inserting the “neck” nub into the hole between the shoulders!

2The heads of the Hipper dolls do not easily come off. The hipper line of Angels, which are the ones lying down and with a sticky adhesive on a belly, are another story (as you can see in some TikToks ). While the heads can technically come off, they’re usually glued down to prevent this, since these dolls sit at an angle that would make the heads fall off too easily otherwise.
- Many users have reported the heads loosening naturally over time. Others have been able to force the heads off by shimmying and twisting them, but we don’t recommend this.
- What if the head does come off? Don’t panic! If the head comes off an Angel and it feels like it shouldn’t have, just put a pea-sized dab of superglue on the space where it broke off, reattach it, and hold it in place for 60 seconds until the glue dries. Just keep in mind that you won’t be able to take it off again in the future.

Real Sonny Angels are in opaque bags and have foot stamps. Genuine Angels come in a bag that you can’t see through. This is to add mystery and excitement!
