The headache-free guide on solving your gaming problem with Xbox Live
PDF download Download Article

Xbox Live’s services aren’t perfect, so it’s reasonable if you want to reach out to their customer service team for help. If you’ve already tried to reach someone at Xbox Live, you may be coming here trying to figure out how to actually get a hold of someone. Luckily, if you’re here you’ve finally found the help you need. Microsoft does not make this easy, so some guidance here may ease your pain. In this article, we’ll break down the most reliable and efficient ways to reach Xbox Live customer support so that you can get back to your game.

Things You Should Know

  • You can call Xbox Live at 1-800-469-9269, but it will only play a prerecorded message. You cannot reach anyone via phone.
  • Fill out the online contact page to access your options.
  • Depending on your answers to the questions on the contact page, you’ll be given options to chat on the web, use a virtual assistant, or schedule a phone call.
  • The scheduled phone call is the only way to reach an IRL person on the phone. You can always post on the Xbox support forum , though!

Phone

  1. Unfortunately, Xbox does not have a phone number you can call to get a hold of a person. What you’ll get when you call is an automated 20-second speech about going online to get help. [1]
    • Just a heads up, there’s a super loud Xbox startup sound that plays at the beginning of the call. It’s pretty jarring if you’re wearing headphones and the volume is up.
    • Unfortunately, the “tap 0 over and over again” trick to get a person on the phone won’t work here.

Online

  1. Go to the online contact page . Xbox Live sort of bundles their customer service phone help, web chat, and automated chat together into one online web form. Visit the contact page from your computer or phone to get started. [2]
    • Just a heads up, this is probably going to be easier from a browser.
    • Take a deep breath. We know this is a bizarre way for a company to operate a customer service department, but alas, this is how they’ve chosen to do it.
  2. Trust us, we know. it’s super annoying there’s no way to skip this part.
    • You can speed this process up by signing into your Microsoft account first. However, you should only do this if you’re 100% positive your Microsoft account ID matches the account you used to setup your Xbox Live account.
  3. Again, we know it’s a pain that you have to sift through these options (why can’t you just write a short message?) but you don’t have much of a choice. Read through the categories in the drop-down menu to select the type of issue you’re having. Then, select the closest sub-issue that describes your problem. Finally, type in a few words about your specific problem and click on whatever pre-written menu option is most accurate.
    • You can’t hit “next” without choosing a pre-written menu option, so if you’re confused why you can’t proceed, this might be why.
    • Depending on the specific issue, another 1-2 clarifying questions may pop up on the screen.
  4. You’ll now be presented with 4 potential options. Click on the type of help that you prefer. Every option should solve your problem, so just go with your personal preference here.
    • Automated Solution: The top option will typically be automated. You’ll be redirected to the Microsoft virtual assistant to get troubleshooting help from a robot.
    • Web Chat: This will pull up an online chat window where you can talk to a customer service rep.
    • Forum Post: This options is probably the slowest, but there will usually be a link to post a question in the community forums.
    • Scheduled Phone Call: This is what you want if you want phone help. You’ll need to sign into your Microsoft account, then provide a phone number. They’ll call you when a relevant team member is free (it shouldn’t take more than a few minutes to get a call).
  5. This is where the Xbox team can really get on your nerves—some of the options on the dropdown menus will eventually lead to solutions that don’t work for your problem, or solutions that you can’t possibly do. If this happens, simply try again using different menu selections until you get to a screen where you’re given actionable options to talk to someone who exists.
    • For example, if you enter info about not being able to see games when you open them, you’ll only be given the option to link to a customer service rep via screensharing, which may not be possible given your setup.

Support Forum

  1. Visit the Xbox support forum for community help. If the Xbox Live customer service team doesn’t help you solve your problem, you may be best off turning to veteran Xbox users for help.
    • This may not be the fastest option, but if you’ve got an extremely unique problem, this is probably the best way to go.
    • There is also an unofficial Xbox peer support page on reddit if you don’t end up getting the help you need on the official forum.
  2. It’s very unlikely that you’re the first person in history to have the problem you’re having, and the info you need may already be online. Choose the category and topic from the dropdown menus next to the “Xbox” header. Then, scroll through all of the common questions to see if your issue has been addressed.
  3. Post a new question by clicking “ask a new question.” You’ll be redirected to sign into your Xbox account. Then, fill out the forum post and submit your question! The forum is pretty active, so it shouldn’t take too long to get help.

Make sure that you've got enough disc space. FIFA 23 is a pretty massive game. Beyond that, all you can do is retry downloading it later. It looks like a few other people have had this problem too, so rest assured you're not alone.

Unfortunately, you need to go through the online form and hope that the options you choose result in an option for a scheduled phone call. There's no way to directly contact real help.

My son's Xbox 360 power supply went out. How do I find a new plug?
    Community Answer
You have to install a new one, which you can buy from Amazon. You also can buy a used Xbox 360 from a gaming store such as GameStop.
