How can I make money online from home?

Hello, wikiHow. I’m currently trying to move out of my parents’ home but I’m just not making enough money at my normal day job to do that in any realistic time. I’d love to speed the process up by picking up a side hustle, but here’s the problem. My day job is at a restaurant and it’s usually pretty busy. I’m so exhausted by the time that I get home that the idea of going out to do a second job just sounds impossible. I just wouldn’t be able to do it. I was thinking I’d pursue something online, but I don’t really know what the most realistic or viable? What can I do to make money from home? I’m pretty good on a computer, but I just can’t tell what’s legit or not when I search for jobs.

I was in your shoes a few years ago. I’ll tell you what I did. So, I started out doing transcription work online. I would be given an audio file and need to type out what I heard. It was very easy work, but I’m a little bit of a slow typer and it was really boring to me so I looked for something else. Still, if you’re a fast typist and you don’t mind listening to potentially dull audio files it’s very easy work.

Then, I tried driving for Uber and Lyft. I figured sitting behind the wheel of a car wouldn’t be that exhausting. I was mostly right, but I really wanted to find something I could do from bed, honestly. But yeah, if you have a car, rideshare is a pretty easy way to make dough.

I ended up eventually tutoring online. I worked with an agency who set me up with 3-4 students who needed help with math. I didn’t even have a math degree, I studied chemistry. But if you are good with working with younger people, that’s the route I’d go. It’s not crazy complicated and the money is pretty good!

Take your pick! You can look into the things that catch your eye:
- online surveys
- writing + selling ebooks
- tutoring
- streaming or making a channel
- research studies
- selling and flipping things
- testing products, websites, apps
- blog + affiliate links
- sell unused gift cards

The two things that worked best for me were testing things and participating in research studies. Testing things might sound scary or technical but it's not! They just want real people to use the product as a user would, so they're not expecting you to do anything fancy. After playing around with websites or apps for a while you just have to give them feedback on what you liked and didn't like and file any bugs you ran into.

For research studies, I'd just have to fill out a few surveys to get matched with a study. The ones I do are usually interviews, so I'll just chat with a researcher for like an hour (or maybe more if there are follow-up interviews), and get paid! This can be especially effective if you happen to have a specific identity or life experience that would make it hard for researchers to find participants, because then they're willing to pay more.

Not gonna lie, it can be hard to make significant money from small online things like surveys and random tasks. I think it'd be more worthwhile if you invested that time into learning a skill or setting up a business that would bring more value in the long run.

it can be hard to make money period...you might be okay setting up a small business selling hand made jewelry? or different accessories that aren't too hard to make...other than that i think youd be better off trying to prepare skills for a career type job or taking on a second job that only involves sitting and typing or remote work data entry or something. best of luck!
