How to get rid of squirrels?
I’ve got a squirrel problem. I’m pretty sure I can hear them scurrying around in the walls sometimes and I hear them scrambling around on my roof all the time. I even think they're terrorizing my herb garden outside. I’d love to try and tackle this myself, but I’ve never dealt with squirrels. Any advice or guidance on how to get rid of these things fo good?

It’s January now, so squirrels in and around your home are going to be kind of tough to get rid of if they’re hibernating nearby, so you may need to wait until it gets warmer. For now, you can set up live cage traps. I like to use peanut butter as the bait. Whenever you catch a squirrel, take it at least 3 miles away and release it. Stay at it and eventually you’ll get rid of all the regulars in and around your home. In terms of your outdoor space, a dog is a great option! Squirrels and dogs aren’t exactly best pals and the squirrels won’t stick around long if there’s a predator where you live.

First off, remove their food sources so they don't have any incentive to keep coming back. This means sealing up your garbage bins and picking up fallen fruits, vegetables, and nuts from your yard. Then you can repel them with scents like coffee, peppermint, pepper, garlic, and vinegar and physical barriers like fencing.

I set up some automatic sprinklers in my yard that would spray water whenever squirrles got too close. Now that the squirrels have been startled, they're scared and don't hang around my yard or house anymore.

Squirrels are very playful and family friendly too. If they are circling the soffit and roof, there is an entry and exit... sometimes that's the same point. A piece of chicken wire nailed and placed over the entry will shut them out. There's a catch, often there's a nest with babies on there. So you have to time them and listen for the feet movement. Upon exit early in the morning, is the best time to set the trap.
