The College of Winterhold is a school of wizards and archmages. It’s a fellowship of magic users that overlooks the city of Winterhold found on the northeastern area of the map. The College is one of the many factions your main character can join. Joining the College will open up a whole new set of missions related to Skyrim’s Main storyline.

Travel to Winterhold. Start from the city of Windhelm on the eastern area of the map. Exit the city and take the road that leads all the way north to the snowy regions. Follow the path for a considerable distance and you’ll find a couple of wooden houses at the end. This is the city of Winterhold. -
Go to the end of the city. As you enter Winterhold, you’ll see from a distance a large castle-like structure sitting on top of a plateau detached from the city. This is the College of Winterhold. Head towards this structure and you’ll find a stone staircase at the end of the city.Advertisement -
Speak with Faralda. Climb the stone staircase and you’ll find a female mage guarding the bridge that connects the city to the plateau where the College rests. Speak to her and she’ll tell you that you need to pass a test in order to join the college and pass through the bridge. -
Take the test. Faralda will ask you to show her your magic skills. All you need to do is to open your in-game menu and select “Magic” and cast the following spells she’ll ask you to perform:- Firebolt
- Fear
- Fury
- Magelight
- Healing Hands
- Conjure Flame Atronach
- Conjure Familiar
- Fireball

Buy some spells. If you haven’t learned one of the spells Faralda asks you to show her, don’t worry because she’ll offer it to you for 30 gold. Purchase it from her, press the “Inventory” button on your controller, and select the spell scroll she sold you to learn it.- Once you’ve learned the spell, repeat step four to cast the spell she’s asking you to show her.

Pass the test. After you’ve casted all the spells she asked, she’ll then open the gates and allow you to pass through the bridge. You’re now a member of the College of Winterhold.
