You do not have to save them -- just complete the setup of the filter and they will be added to your filter list.

Can I block emails by filtering them with certain keywords?
    Community Answer
Yes. Click your account picture in the top right, then click Settings. Click the tab at the top that says Filters and Blocked Addresses. Toward the middle of the screen, you will see Create New Filter. Click that, and it will allow you to choose which words to be filtered.

How do I remove a filter?
    Community Answer
Select the gear icon to enter the Settings page. Then, select Filters and Blocked Addresses. Once you've found the filter you want to delete, just click "Delete" on the far right.
  • Question
Where exactly do I find the "create a filter" option?
    Community Answer
Follow these simple steps: In your mailbox click the gear icon on top righthand side of the page and select "Settings". Then click "Filters and Blocked Addresses". You'll see the "Create a New Filter" option in the middle of the Filters and Blocked Address tab.
  • Question
How do I set up a filter to forward all mail EXCEPT from named senders?
    Community Answer
The best way to set up this kind of filter would be to sort the named senders to their own folder, leaving everything else in the 'general mail' inbox. You can then quickly scan the inbox to move anything you want to keep and bulk select all remaining messages for the trash.
  • Question
How do you add multiple keywords to a filter? For example, I want to send to trash emails with "Free!" or "Win!" in the body of the email.

    Community Answer
You cannot add multiple keywords in one filter unless you want to filter out messages when two or more words in the filter are side-by-side. You'll have to create different filters altogether. For example, you will have to create one filter with "Free!", save the filter, and then create another one with "Win!". But if you create a filter with "Free! Win!", messages with the whole phrase "Free! Win!" will only get filtered.
  • Question
How do I filer certain words in Gmail?
    Butterfly
    Community Answer
To filter certain words, just enter those words in "Has the words". Then, choose what you want to do with messages those words (for example, delete, mark as important, etc). Finally, save the filter and you're done!
