  • Question
What is a good software application for creating a Vocaloid voice?
    Community Answer
You should try to stick with Vocaloid itself, but if you don't want to pay $100+, then you can make your own UTAU instead with the UTAU application (free).
  • Question

    Community Answer
    Yes, of course!
  • Question
What program do I need to do a 3D design?
    Community Answer
You can use any 3D modeling program, but I like to use Blender. However, Blender requires a 64 Bit environment and hardware acceleration. (In other words, make sure you run 64 Bit Windows and have a good graphics card installed.)
  • Question
Can we create one on an iPad?
    Community Answer
Yes, and most if not all steps are free. Downloading apps like drawing apps and voice recording apps are necessary, and you can even share your Vocaloid with an iPad too.
  • Question
What should my Vocaloid's voice sound like?
    Community Answer
It could sound however you'd like! Remember, it's your Vocaloid. Get creative! Test out you own voice, and see how that works first. If that doesn't appeal to you, try something new. It's all yours!
  • Question
Can I make a Vocaloid that's based on an existing character, or do I have to come up with something from scratch?
    Community Answer
Its really your choice. It can be based off of another character if it will help you build your character better, but if you want a fun challenge create something completely from scratch.
  • Question
What program should I install for making 3d characters or songs?
    Community Answer
For music there are many programs such as Reason, Ableton or FL Studio. It's easy to get started with. Plus, there are loads of tutorials on how to create sounds, melodies or mixing on YouTube.

  • Question
How can I make my own Vocaloid character?
    Community Answer
Design-wise, the best thing to do is learn character design skills. Color theory, body language, outfit creating, things like that. Voice-wise, you can use UATUloid to turn your own voice into a voice bank.
  • Question
Can I use my persona to make a Vocaloid?
    Community Answer
Sure, just try to avoid making your persona a Mary Sue or Gary Stu because those are annoying.
  • Question
Can I create a vocaloid on an Android device?
    Community Answer
Of course! All you really need is a drawing app. I made a Fanloid on my Android tablet using a drawing app called Ibis Paint X. It's a mostly free app apart from an optional payment for more brushes but you can watch a quick ad to unlock them for 18 hours.
  • Question
How do I copyright my Vocaloid name?
    Community Answer
As a fan-made character, you can't own the copyright for it. Even if it was your idea, Vocaloid is copyright, already claimed by its owners and your character is "inspired by" Vocaloid.
  • Question
Can I do this on Apple products?
    Community Answer
Yes! You just need a drawing app! When making my Fanliod (Fanmade Vocaliod), I used Ibis Paint X - which is available on both Apple and Android devices. The app is mostly free apart from some optional fees for extra brushes. But you can also just watch a quick ad and get the extra brushes for free for 18 hours.
  • Question
Can I make a Vocaloid without UTAU?
    Community Answer
Absolutely! If you don't have UTAU, you can use the actual Vocaloid program, or Audacity will work just as well. (There are plenty of YT videos on how to use Audacity for creating a Vocaloid, although you might not be able to create a voicebank as easily as you would with Vocaloid or UTAU).

It would cost you quite a bit to buy the Vocaloid software and voicebanks, but you can find cheaper alternatives (like SynthV or UTAU) for user-made voicebanks to save money.
