  • Question
How do I pick out a name for my alter ego?
    Community Answer
Try to pick a name that is unique, but not too simple or too extreme. For example, a simple name such as "John Davies" will seem like an average Joe. An extreme name such as "The Word" will seem like you are asking for attention. In Pretty Little Liars, Alison DiLaurentis assumes the alter ego "Vivian Darkbloom", a character from the book Lolita. Classy but trendy.

Well, if you're going to create an alter ego, feel free to create it any way you like. Dream big, there are no limits. First think of what you want, after that you can worry about ways to achieve it. If you will for example be dressing as your alter ego on a stage, you can hide breasts with clothes, or create them with stuffing, and hairstyle can go a long way, too.

  • Question

  • Question
How do I get rid of an alter ego?
    Community Answer
If you are asking this because you are unable to stop acting as your character when you wish to do so, you should seek out a mental health professional. This sounds more like an alter (DID, the new term for MPD) than an alter ego. However, if you mean that you are already performing as this character, and don't want to anymore, you will have to get creative. You could kill them off. Another option would be to just go on an interview and declare you will no longer be acting as this persona.
  • Question
    How to get into character?
    Community Answer
There are many ways to get into character. One is to make anchors that trigger a specific ego. The anchors could be connected to certain actions, items (clothes for example), and anything you can think about. Choose the triggers after you have a good picture of the ego.
  • Question
I want to make an alter ego for a character I'm writing about. I want them to look like them, but act out more, speak their mind, and be a little more violent. Is that okay and is it an alter ego?

Sure, that's fine. Alter egos are often slightly extreme versions of the character. Perhaps your character wishes they were a little bolder and a little freer with their words like their alter ego is. This would make perfect sense.
  • Question
Can you tell me if alters are similar to DID disorder or TULPAS?
    Community Answer
An alter ego is a character of your creation. Maybe to help you gain more confidence, or be friendlier. I'm friends with a guy with DID and I can tell you that Alter Egos are in no way compared to Disociative Identity Disorder. His alters are their own people, and he has no control over what they do or when they do it, unlike you would with a character. I'm afraid I don't know much of tulpas, but if you believe in such a thing, maybe they could be considered such.
