It just takes the patience to train yourself. An important part of learning how to draw is learning how to see things as they are rather than how you think they are. In other words, instead of drawing the symbols for things, try to observe objects as they really are.

QuestionHow can I make my art stand out more?Community AnswerUse bright/dark contrasting shades/colors. It really depends on what you like to put down. Landscapes? Animals? Plants? People? Pay attention to detail and it will really add another dimension to your work. Find artists you like and study their work, then create your own style. Pay attention to light sources -- the direction from which light is shining on your subject -- and practice until you're comfortable with what you're putting on paper. Be proud of your accomplishments and get some honest advice from someone who's artistic opinion you trust. Don't be afraid to show off the pieces you're proud of.

QuestionI've been drawing for 5 years and haven't seen much improvement. I see the idea in my head, but it never comes out like I want it to on paper. Is there a way to learn cartoon characters fast and easy?Community AnswerYou probably have improved without realizing. Try looking back at an old drawing, or even redrawing it. Also, keep an open mind, artists often hate everything they make, try stepping back and asking yourself why you dislike something and try to improve that aspect. As for cartoons, I would recommend figure drawing, it makes some people uncomfortable to draw from a nude model, but it will really help you get a grip on anatomy. Many cartoons look amateur if the artist does not have at least some understanding of the human body, as you have to know the rules before you can break them.
