Most hair ties come already tied off in a circle shape. To use one, slide the circle over a section of hair and move it down to the roots. Then, fold the band over to create a figure eight and pull the hair at the end of the ponytail through the open side. Repeat folding and pulling through until band feels snug.

I wouldn't suggest a tight ponytail every day because too much tension is not good for your hair follicle and can break the hair. I've had clients come in with breakage because they put their hair up too much and you can see the line where they broke their hair. I always suggest a loose ponytail with a scrunchie.

First, you should create two normal pigtails, as described above. Next, divide the first pigtail into 3 sections. Then, plait (braid) the 3 sections. Use a hair tie to secure the braid at the bottom. Then, repeat for the other pigtail.

  • Question
What are the steps to make a flip-through pony tail?
    Community Answer
To make a flip through ponytail, first gather your hair into a ponytail, either at the middle of your head or the nape of your neck. Separate the hair to make a hole at the top of the hair elastic (between the elastic and your head) and pull the ponytail through. You may need to adjust it a bit before you're satisfied. Another way to make a flip through ponytail is using a topsy tail, which is basically a stick with a loop on the top. It is very easy to use and you can even make your own. To make a flip through ponytail with the topsy tail, push the handle through the top of the hair elastic (between elastic and your head), pull your hair through the hole and tug on the handle. This will make a great flip through ponytail.

  • Question
Whenever I make a ponytail, it looks like I have very little hair. What should I do?
    Melissa
    Community Answer
Here are a few things you can do to make your ponytail look fuller and thicker: Start with clean hair. This will help to remove any oil or product build-up that could be weighing down your hair. Tease your hair at the roots. This will give your ponytail more volume and lift. To do this, use a fine-tooth comb to backcomb your hair at the roots. Be careful not to overdo it, as you don't want to damage your hair. Use a volumizing mousse or spray. Apply the product to your damp hair before blow-drying it. This will help to add volume and hold to your hair. Tie your ponytail at a higher level. This will also help to create the illusion of fuller hair.
