There are machines you can buy that will pump the mole's tunnel with carbon dioxide to put it down. Those are fairly effective. The mole won't experience any pain either, if that's something you're worried about. It will just go to sleep and die quietly.

Is there a way to increase the sensitivity of the pressure plate in the victor headset mole trap?

To improve sensitivity, cut a 1 X 1-1/4-inch rectangular shim out of a 1/16th-inch thick piece of hard plastic and glue it inside and at the end of the 1-1/4-inch-wide iron channel that has the yellow label. The shim prevents the cocking mechanism from rotating as far past the triggering point when the trap is set.
