      Tips

      • The form of соскучиться does not change depending on the gender of the person you are talking about. Russian past tense verbs change depending on the gender of the speaker. [4]
      • If you are studying Russian, practice using the verb скучать in other sentences. It takes the preposition по followed by the dative or prepositional case (скучать по кому-то/чему-то or ком-то/чём-то). [5]
      • Where the parenthetical "(y)" appears in the transliteration, there is a slight "y" sound that can be difficult for English speakers to include. You can skip it and still be understood.

      Warnings

      • The same verb скучать also means "to be bored"! Я скучаю (Ya skoo-chái-yoo) as a standalone sentence might be taken to mean "I am bored" if it is not clear from context. Мне скучно (Mnye skóo-chnuh) is the more common phrase for "I am bored," however, so the meaning is usually clear.
