Reddit allows users to post text , pictures, and now you can upload video. Prior to 2017, Reddit didn't allow users to upload videos directly to Reddit. You had to post a link to a third-party website or platform. Now you can easily upload video directly to Reddit using the mobile app or a computer, as long as your video meets the requirements and the subreddit allows uploads. This wikiHow article teaches you how to upload a video from your computer, phone, or tablet to a new Reddit post.

Using the Official Reddit Mobile App

    • There are many mobile apps that allow you to post to Reddit. This method covers Reddit's official app, which you can download from the App Store on iPhone and iPad or from the Google Play Store on Android.
  2. It's the icon with a plus (+) sign at the bottom of the screen in the center. This allows you to create a new post.

  4. To do so, tap the video you want to upload and then tap Add in the upper-right corner.
    • Your video should be in the MP4 or MOV format, 1GB or less, and no more than 15 minutes long. If your video is longer than 15 minutes or the wrong file format, you can edit your video using free video editing software .
  5. To trim the video, tap and drag the large white bars on the left or right side of the video timeline at the bottom of the screen. Tap the triangle icon to preview the video. Tap Next in the upper-right corner when you are finished trimming your video, or if you want to move on without trimming the video.
  6. You might have to trim or expand the title in the next step, according to the rules of the subreddit you're posting the video to. Tap Next in the upper-right corner when you are finished.
  7. To do so, use the search bar to enter the name of a subreddit or a topic related to your video. Tap the subreddit you want to post to in the search results.
    • If you're following subreddits or communities, you'll see them listed here. You'll also be able to see which subreddits don't allow video posting.
  8. This means that you might need to shorten or make your "Title" longer or add tags & flair.
    • Tap Add tags & flair if required. Universal tags can be toggled, including Not Safe for Work , Spoiler, and Brand Affiliate.
    • You can also tap to include other tags in your post. You can only use tags from the list and cannot make your own.
  9. It's in the upper-right corner. This posts your video to the community you selected.

  1. Open https://www.reddit.com in your web browser. If you're not already signed in, click LOG IN at the top-right corner to sign in.
  2. Note that you can't upload videos or images in every subreddit.
  3. It's under the subreddit's header with a + icon.
  4. You can find it at the top of the new post form.
    • If the Images & Video tab is greyed out, you can't upload this type of media to this subreddit.
  5. This opens your file manager (File Explorer on PC and Finder on Mac) so you can browse for the video file.
    • Alternatively, you can drag and drop your video file on top of the UPLOAD button here. This will also upload your video.
    • Alternatively, if you want to post a link to a video from another platform , such as YouTube, copy the URL to the video. Then tap the Link tab instead of the "Images & Video" tab. Paste the link where it says "URL."
  6. This attaches the video to your new post.
    • Your video should be in the MP4 or MOV format, 1GB or less, and no more than 15 minutes long. [1]
  7. The "Title" field is at the top of the page and must be filled in. You can use up to 300 characters in the "Title" area.
    • Click Add flair and tags if that's required information. You'll see a red asterisk next to the text if it's required. The requirements change for every subreddit, so check the rules to see what you can and cannot post.
    • There are toggles so you can tag if your video is NSFW, contains spoilers, or if it contains a brand affiliate.
  8. It's the blue button at the bottom-right corner of the post. This posts your video to the selected subreddit.

Using a Mobile Browser

  1. Go to the old Reddit site here and sign in if you need to. You can't upload a video using the updated Reddit site on your phone or tablet's web browser.
    • Use this method if you're using your smartphone or tablet but don't have the Reddit mobile app.
  2. Note that you can't upload videos or images in every subreddit.
  3. You'll see this to the far right of the page above Submit a new text post."
  4. This opens your gallery so you can pick the video you want to upload.
  5. The file will open in the page where you're creating a new post.
    • Your video should be in the MP4 or MOV format, 1GB or less, and no more than 15 minutes long. [2]

    • If you didn't previously navigate to a subreddit where you want to post your video, you can choose one now under "Choose where to post."

  7. If this is greyed out, the video you selected hasn't finished uploading or there is an empty required field. Look over your submission again to make sure you've filled out or selected something next to every red asterisk.

      • If you are getting no sound on the videos you upload, first check to make sure sound is enabled. Reddit mutes the audio on videos by default. If you are not hearing sound in a video, check the speaker icon in the lower-right corner of the video playback. If it has an "x" next to it, the audio is muted. Tap it to unmute the audio. If the speaker icon is greyed out and can't be tapped, the video has no audio. You can also go into your profile settings and make sure you do not have quiet mode turned on. [3]
