1Draw an oval with 3 horizontal lines inside for her head and face. To start drawing the head, draw a short, slightly rounded oval near the top of your paper. Slightly above the horizontal midline of your oval, draw a just-barely curved horizontal line that stretches from one side to the other. [1] X Research source

2Draw 2 trapezoids—one right side up, one upside down—for the body. Start by drawing one trapezoid that’s upside down (i.e., the longest side is on top). Place this trapezoid 2–3 millimetres (0.079–0.118 in) below the oval head shape. About 0.5 inches (13 mm) below the bottom of this trapezoid, draw another one that’s right side up. The first trapezoid will outline Sailor Moon’s shoulders and the top of her torso, while the second one will outline her hips.Advertisement

Draw 5 lines and 4 small rectangles for the torso and limbs. Draw one slightly curved line from the bottom-center of the oval to the top of the lower trapezoid. This line should represent the natural curve of Sailor Moon’s spine (or torso). Then, draw two straight lines to represent the legs. Put a slight bend in each of these lines to represent the knees (or the separation between thigh and calf) and draw a small dot in each bend. [2] X Research source
- Draw an angled line from either side of the top trapezoid to represent the arms. Have one arm go from the trapezoid “shoulder” to the hip, with a sharp corner in it to represent the elbow. Have the other arm go from the other side of the trapezoid to the side of the head.

4Shape the oval into a realistic head, then draw the ears and neck. Sketch darker lines around the oval to create a more structured head—i.e., a pointed chin and straighter sides to the face. 5Draw Sailor Moon’s choker and the top part of her outfit. Sketch a shallow V-shaped neckline starting at the top corners of the upper trapezoid. Draw a large bow at the dip of the V-neck. 6Draw Sailor Moon’s pleated skirt. Draw a V-shape with lines that begin at the top corners of the lower trapezoid. Draw another, parallel V-shape and connect them to create the belt on Sailor Moon’s skirt. Then, sketch short, curved lines extending from the belt to create pleats. 7Shape the arms and legs around your outline. Draw arm and leg shapes around the line guides that you sketched out earlier. Make them more rounded and less angular than your lines, but have them follow the same directions and angles. 8Draw both hands—one in a peace sign, and one resting on the skirt. For the raised hand, sketch out a peace sign that Sailor Moon is holding in front of her forehead. For the peace sign, draw the extended middle and index fingers with the pinky, ring, and middle fingers folded. 9Shape the feet and sketch in V-shaped lines for Sailor Moon’s boots. Shape the rectangular boxes at the end of each leg into boot shapes. Make one boot into a pointed oval, as if she’s pointing it downward and we can only see the top of the boot. Draw the other boot from a side angle with a square heel and pointed toe. - For added design detail, draw a small semicircle at the top of each boot.

10Draw thin crescent shapes on the elbows for her gloves. At each elbow, draw three side-by-side crescent shapes (similar to how you drew the sleeves). These crescent shapes will create the ruffled tops of her gloves—she should have one glove on each hand. [13] X Research source

11Draw a V-shaped diadem and crescent bangs on her forehead. Draw two “V” shapes to create a diadem at the very top of Sailor Moon’s forehead. Then, draw small, curved, and connected crescent shapes around the top of her forehead to create her bangs (which should slightly cover up the diadem). 12Draw 2 hair buns and long, curved lines on both sides for ponytails. Sailor Moon typically appears with two long ponytails—one on either side of her head. First, build the hair up from the bangs to give it a natural, rounded shape. Then, on the top of each side of the hair, draw a small circle to represent a hair bun. From each bun, draw a long line that slopes down and out before curving slightly inward and coming to a stop at mid-calf. [15] X Research source

Draw Sailor Moon’s nose, eyes, eyebrows, and lips. For each of her two eyes, draw a vertical oval with another vertical oval inside it. Draw a thin, rounded eyebrow line over the top of the eye, and draw three eyelash lines on the bottom of the eye. - Adjust the facial features as needed, using visual references, until they look as similar as possible to the cartoon.

Add any final detailing and colors to your Sailor Moon drawing. Add any extra details that you want to Sailor Moon’s face, hair, or outfit before completing your sketch—for example, you could draw a bow on the back of her dress, a brooch on the front of her dress, earrings coming down from her ears, and a crescent moon on her choker necklace.
