Quickly create slideshows with these built-in apps

Did you know that you can create custom slideshows in the Photos app on your iPad? In iPadOS 18 and later, these slideshows are called Memories. You can select your own photos, change the order of the slideshow, and even add effects and music. If you’re interested in building a more PowerPoint-like presentation with slides, we’ll also explain how to do that using your iPad’s built-in Keynote app.

Quick Steps for Making Slideshows on iPad

  1. Open the Photos app.
  2. Tap Select at the top right corner of the photo grid.
  3. Tap your images to select them.
  4. Tap ••• at the bottom right corner of the screen.
  5. Select Play as Slideshow .
  6. Tap the screen while the slideshow is playing to display editing and sharing tools.
  7. Tap X to close the slideshow and save it to Memories.

Making a Slideshow in Photos

    Tap Select . It’s in the top right corner of the grid of photos. [1]
    • If you want to choose photos from a specific album, you can select the album in the menu bar on the left side of the screen.

    Tap the pictures you want to include in the slideshow. Once you’ve selected an image, a blue circle with a checkmark in it will appear on the thumbnail.

    Select the ••• icon. It’s at the bottom right corner of the screen. A menu will expand.

    Tap Play as Slideshow . The slideshow will begin playing.

    Tap the slideshow to access editing tools. As the slideshow is playing, you can tap on it to display various tools. Tapping the slideshow will also bring up the play/pause button and display thumbnails of your slides at the bottom of the screen. [2]
    • Tap the sparkly musical note icon in the bottom left corner to add music or effects. You can either swipe to see different preset music and filter combinations, or manually select them by tapping the musical note icon or the icon that looks like three overlapping circles in the bottom right corner.
      • The musical note tool allows you to add music from Apple Music .
      • The tool with the overlapping circles will open a menu of “Memory Looks,” which are just basic photo filters.
    • Tap the icon that looks like a grid in the bottom right corner to reorder the images or add more.
      • Drag and drop images to reorder them.
      • Tap and hold an image to see more options, like “Make Key Photo” or “Hide from Memory.” You can also delete images from the slideshow using this menu.
      • Tap the blue + icon in the bottom right corner to add more images.
    • Tap ••• and select Edit Title to edit your slideshow’s title, subtitle, and key photo. The key photo is the image that appears with the title of your slideshow.
      • This menu also has options for managing the images in your slideshow, casting your slideshow to another device with AirPlay, or playing the slideshow on a loop.

    Tap theicon to share your slideshow. It’s located in the top right corner of the screen. If you don’t see this icon, tap the screen while the slideshow is playing to display it. You can share your show with a contact, AirDrop it to a nearby Apple device, or share it in another app (like Messages or YouTube).
    • This menu also gives you the option to save your slideshow as a video.

    Tap X in the top left corner to close the slideshow. The slideshow will be automatically saved in Memories. To view it again, tap Memories in the left-hand menu bar in your photo library, then select your slideshow.

Creating Presentations in Keynote

    Tap Choose a Theme . Keynote is an Apple app that comes preinstalled on most iPads. It is similar to PowerPoint or Google Slides. To open Keynote, tap the app icon that looks like a podium with a pie chart on it. Then, tap Choose a Theme to start building a slideshow from a preset template. [3]
    • If you prefer to create a presentation from scratch, you can tap Start an Outline instead.

    Tap a theme to select it. In the Choose a Theme screen, browse the themes on the screen or tap a category to view different styles of theme (like Basic, Dynamic, or Minimal). When you see a theme you like, tap it to create a new presentation.

    Tap the text fields to edit them. On the first slide, you’ll see fields for the presentation title, subtitle, and author information. Tap the text in each field to edit it.

    Select + in the bottom left corner to add a new slide. Choose a slide layout from the menu that pops open. If you don’t want to use one of the preset layouts, scroll all the way to the bottom and select the Blank option.

    Use the buttons at the top of the screen to edit your slides. For example, tap the button that looks like a grid to add a table, or the one that looks like a pie chart to add a chart. You can also add shapes or images.
    • Once you add an object or image, you can tap and drag it to move it around on the slide, or use the handles on the edges to resize it.
    • Select an object and tap the paintbrush icon on the top right side of the screen for additional options. For example, you can use this menu to add a border, shadow, or other effects to an image.

    Explore additional options with the ••• menu. Tap this icon in the top right corner of the screen to access more tools.
    • For example, select Animate to add transitions between slides or animate objects. Tap Done in the top left corner when you’re finished.
    • You can also use this menu to rehearse your slideshow, set up a nearby iPhone or iPad to work as a Keynote remote, or add more tools to your Keynote toolbar.

    Tap theplay button to play your slideshow. Tap each slide to navigate to the next one. Swipe right to go back to the previous slide or reset the animations on your current slide. If you want to skip to a different part of the presentation, tap the left side of the screen to open the slide navigator. [4]
    • Want to draw on your slides as you present? Touch and hold the slide until a toolbar appears, then tap the drawing tool. Select a color and use your finger or Apple Pencil to draw on the screen.
    • Pinch anywhere on the screen to return to the editing view when you’re done.

    Tap theshare icon to share or save your slideshow. From this menu, you can share your slideshow with contacts, export it in another format (such as PowerPoint or PDF), or share it via an app like Mail.

    Yes, it can be saved in ipad to use it elsewhere. It's in the upper-left corner of the Files app. This displays the Locations menu in a sidebar to the left. Tap the location the PPT file is saved to. If the PPT is saved to your iPhone or iPad, tap "On My iPhone/iPad".
