Unfortunately, it's too short. You need to redo it with a longer length of string. Your line should always be flush with the spool plus an additional 6 inches or so of length.

Frankly, you're probably okay so long as the spool is tight. Just take it slow the first time you run the trimmer to ensure the spool doesn't fly out of the casing. It should probably be alright, though.

How do I replace the string in a double wire weed eater that doesn't wind strings because they fold in half then go through two holes?

If you're referring to a string trimmer that doesn't have an line feed feature, you do exactly as you describe -- fold the lines in half, insert, and cut to length (if needed). Double-line trimmers typically divide the spool into two halves (one fore each protruding line). If there is a hole between the two halves that is close to the center, you can cut a 25ft length of line, thread it through one of the holes so that one end is about 6in longer than the other, and then wind up both ends of the line simultaneously (e.g.,, Jonsered and Husqvarna string trimmers).
