    If the straws are long enough you can cut them in half, then you'd have 12 to work with. I had really long straws that I cut into 3 each, it saved straws and worked fine.

    No, they will not stay permanently curled. You can brush them out or wait till they come out. It's the same as using a curling iron, the curls will come out after a while.
