    Expert Answer
If you take good care of your lips in general, you're less likely to have flakiness. Keep your lips moisturized all the time, and exfoliate them regularly with a scrub. If it's still an issue, use a lip primer before you put on your lipstick to fill in the cracks a little.
  • Question
Can I use a flavored lip balm?
    Community Answer
Yes, there are no ill effects to using a flavored lip balm, just don't use it every day, as it will actually dry out your lips more if not used in moderation.
  • Question
    Does Vaseline help?
    Community Answer
Vaseline is petroleum jelly. For some people, it may help. If it doesn't help you, you can try a lip balm or an oil (such as coconut oil).
  • Question

  • Question
Should you use Vaseline every day?
    Community Answer
You can. Lips can dry out quickly, so it's a good idea to use a moisturizer every day.
  • Question
    Can I apply lipstick?

  • Question
I am allergic to petroleum jelly. Can I use substitutes such as coconut oil or shea butter?
    Community Answer
Coconut oil works well. You could apply olive oil once a day to your lips to protect them from the cold.
  • Question
Shouldn't I check the ingredients in the lip balm to make sure it is natural to avoid future problems on my lips?

It's always a good idea to check the ingredients for products you use, especially for eye/lip products, and especially if you already know you're sensitive to certain ingredients, in order to prevent any future complications.
  • Question
Can I apply the petroleum jelly and sugar scrub on the edges of my lips?

No, it will irritate you. If you just stick to the jelly, you should be fine.
  • Question
Isn't it true that petroleum jelly is a barrier against moisture? Shea butter is the most logical.
    Cecilia Flores

Petroleum jelly is actually a very good moisturizer because it not only provides moisture, but it helps lock it in. Shea butter is also a very good option, too, but both work just fine.
  • Question
What should I do if petroleum jelly and lip balm do not work on my lips?

Try something natural, such as milk cream, cucumber, coconut oil or honey.
