QuestionHow do I make pinwheel sandwiches from bread sliced lengthwise?Community AnswerMy mother made these in the 1950s for bridge parties. She would ask the bakery to slice the bread lengthwise. Traditional fillings were egg salad, tuna salad, and chicken salad. Us kids helped apply the spreads and fillings. Mom did the cutting. Follow directions above, be sure to trim off crust and flatten the bread. The wheels will be larger, so cut them as thin as you can without them losing their shape. Unlike the photos, they cannot be toothpicked and are served flat. (Save the crusts for bread pudding or to feed the birds.)

QuestionDo I have to use a specific type of bread or brand or can I use any type of bread?Hannah MaddenCommunity AnswerAs long as your bread is soft and fairly thin, you can use whatever bread you'd like. Stay away from tough, thick bread, like rye or sourdough, since that won't roll up very easily.

QuestionCan I use whole strawberries in a pinwheel sandwich?Hannah MaddenCommunity AnswerWhole strawberries won't roll up inside of bread very well. If you'd like to add strawberries, cut them up into bite-sized pieces and layer them inside of your sandwich before rolling it up. They'll be much easier to eat that way!
