Are you putting branches into boiling hot water or allowing the water to cool? Also, can you preserve branches with pods, and do the pods preserve well?

The water you use in the solution doesn't need to be boiling, though it could be. You can allow the solution to cool before placing the branches in it, or you could place them in it while it is still hot. Pods are generally not preserved along with eucalyptus branches, but you could give it a shot -- perhaps your particular species of eucalyptus will preserve well.
