Does the tire size matter when learning to ride?

You want to use a tire that is thinner so that it's easier to ride. The tire should also come up to the rider's knee to waist. You might want to sit on the bike first and see if your legs reach the pedals. If not, try a smaller sized bike. If your legs bend uncomfortably when on pedals, you need a bigger bike.
