If you choose to insert an image from within Gmail, you should have the option to insert a photo from Google Drive. You can only use the image if it's already been uploaded to Google Drive, however.

Why are some folders grey in Google Drive?

Change the color of a folder by right clicking the folder you would like to change the color of. In the drop-down menu that appears there should be a colored button. Either move your mouse over or click on the colored button, and different colors to choose from should appear. Click on the one you want, and the folder should now show the color you chose.
