Once you go into shinken (sharpened blades), prices jump by about $500 - 1000 more. If you want a traditional hand-forged one, however, expect to pay at least $5000.

Every time you use your katana, sharpen it, and clean it. When storing, it's better to store outside the sheath. If you are going to store the katana for a longer time, consider preserving the blade with special oil to protect from rust. Don't forget to kiss the katana before going to sleep!
